Please follow the instructions in the
“How-To” Guide to submit your donations online. Auction
applications submitted by APPL member associations will be

Holiday giving. APPL will provide advertisement copy in
print ready, email and PDF formats.
Each association will be responsible for forwarding this
information to their members, friends, vendors, and like
minded organizations. We do not wish to have your mailing
lists as many are proprietary. APPL will be responsible for
the auction Web site, maintenance of this site, and all
necessary accounting. |
Publicity:
The success of this auction will depend upon our member
organizations, their friends and vendors to broadcast the
information any way possible. Included with this packet is initial
information for your use in preparing an auction experience or gift
basket. Additional updates and electronic messages will follow that
can be forwarded to your members or linked to your Web site. Let us
know if any other information is required by you to publicize this
auction to your members.
Membership confidentiality:
We encourage you to publicize our auction as much as you can. APPL
will not ask for or broadcast information directly to your
membership. All necessary information will come to you directly,
thus insuring the integrity of your membership lists. All
information collected during the auction pertaining to individual
names, addresses, etc. will be held in strict confidence and will
not be used by APPL or any other organization.
Federal and State Employee Involvement:
These experiences cannot utilize government employees because of
potential pay for access issues.
Online Host:
APPL has selected cMarket, the Cambridge, Massachusetts based
creator of the leading online auction platform solely for
organizations engaged in fundraising for nonprofit causes. Founded
and led by a group of socially-conscious entrepreneurs, cMarket
helps thousands of organizations raise millions of dollars for
worthy causes each year. BiddingForGood.com – is the online auction
portal that enables cause-conscious consumers to quickly and easily
bid on items in cMarket's online auction fundraisers.
What are the benefits of using cMarket?
- the ability to list Member Organizations and Corporate
Sponsors with the item(s) they donate
- the ability to host a private, members only auction
- individual customized auction Web site
- customized email newsletters to generate excitement
How will the proceeds from the auction be shared?
Member Organizations will have two options:
- split the item proceeds, after cMarket fees, 50/50 with APPL
(on packages valued at $500 or more)
- donate the item and all proceeds to APPL (on packages valued
at all levels)
How much does cMarket cost?
The hosting and training fee when you register with cMarket provides
a one year license of $595.00. cMarket assesses a percentage of the
Net Auction Proceeds from the online bidding revenue: 9% of the
first $20,000, 6% of the next $30,000 and then 3% of the last
$40,000 (they cap their percentages when an organization reaches
$90,000).
Who can bid on items in the online auction?
APPL members and friends are invited to participate in the auction.
To avoid any perceived conflict of interest, and to ensure that
members of APPL affiliated organizations have the opportunity to
successfully bid on items of their choice, APPL’s staff and board of
directors may not bid on online auction items.
Will our members’ email addresses be kept confidential?
Yes. Members’ email addresses will be kept confidential. APPL has a
policy of not sharing members’ email addresses and will not use them
for solicitation purposes.
Money Trail and 990’s:
The money will be collected by our web host cMarket. The proceeds
will be transferred directly to APPL. APPL will pay cMarket the
hosting expenses as outlined above. The proceeds after the cMarket
expenses will be split between APPL and the sponsoring organization
of each experience unless the sponsoring organization wishes to
donate more or all of the proceeds to APPL.
APPL will be responsible for reporting on its 990 the funds
received, expensing out cMarket and the percentage paid to the
sponsoring organizations.
The sponsoring organizations will be required to file their
portion of the proceeds (income) on their 990 and their real and
in-kind expenses.
